Frequently asked questions

Can I apply to multiple PNPs at the same time?

It depends on the province. Some allow simultaneous applications, while others require exclusivity. For Express Entry-aligned streams, you can receive a "notification of interest" from multiple provinces through your Express Entry profile. However, you can only accept one provincial nomination at a time. If you receive a nomination, it's linked to that province and adds 600 points to your Express Entry profile.

Do I need a job offer for a PNP nomination?

Not always. Many PNP streams do not require a job offer. They select candidates based on factors like education, language, work experience, and connection to the province. However, having a job offer from an employer in the province significantly strengthens your application and is required for some streams (like Ontario's Employer Job Offer streams). The Atlantic Immigration Program requires a designated employer but has a shorter process.

How long does a PNP nomination take?

Processing times vary by province and stream. Express Entry-aligned nominations are typically processed within 1-6 months by the province. After receiving the nomination, the federal Express Entry application is processed within 6 months. Base (non-Express Entry) streams may take 6-18 months at the provincial level, followed by 12-18 months for federal processing. Total timelines range from 8 months to over 2 years depending on the pathway.

What if I move to a different province after getting PR through a PNP?

Three distinct legal regimes govern this question. First, pre-PR provincial assessment. SOR/2026-63 (in force March 30, 2026) assigns the nominating province sole responsibility to evaluate a nominee's intent to reside according to provincially approved selection criteria, and reserves the province's authority to revoke a nomination on those grounds before PR is granted. Second, federal misrepresentation. IRPA s.40 gives IRCC independent authority to refuse a PR application or revoke status already granted if a nominee misrepresented their intent at application time; this authority is not diminished by the provincial assessment. Third, post-PR mobility. Once PR is granted, Charter s.6 guarantees the right to live and work in any province, and no authority can compel continued residence in the nominating province.

How does this calculator work?

Select the province and stream you're interested in, then enter your details: age, education, language proficiency, work experience, connection to the province, and job offer (if applicable). The calculator applies the province's scoring criteria and shows your estimated score relative to the stream's minimum threshold and recent draw cutoffs. It highlights which factors contribute the most and where you can improve. Note that PNP criteria and draw cutoffs change frequently. Always verify with the province's official immigration website.
