TCF Canada for Canadian Immigration

TCF Canada score to NCLC conversion, test format, and tips for Express Entry's French-language category.

Last verified: April 2026

At a glance

The Test de connaissance du français (TCF) is administered by France Éducation International, an agency of the French Ministry of Education. TCF Canada is the Express Entry-specific version — it is distinct from TCF Québec, TCF ANF (for naturalisation), and TCF Tout Public. The Express Entry test covers Compréhension orale, Compréhension écrite, Expression écrite, and Expression orale. A valid IRCC submission requires scores for all four abilities.

Result turnaround
Approximately 4–6 weeks from the test date. Some centres offer earlier preliminary results for the multiple-choice sections; final written/oral results follow after expert marking.
Cost
Varies by centre and country. In Canada, expect roughly CAD 350–450 for the full 4-ability bundle. Confirm with the accredited centre directly.
Validity
2 years from the test date.
Test centres
Accredited France Éducation International centres worldwide. Canadian availability is narrower than TEF — confirm a sitting before booking. International availability is strong across Europe, French-speaking Africa, and parts of Latin America and Asia.
